Submission PDF

This is the PDF that I submitted for my deadline.

Evaluation

I enjoyed this project as i got the opportunity to design whatever i wanted for Douwe Egberts. I liked the app idea and it was something that I had not done before which was the main reason i wanted to do it.

I think that i could have done more to the app design wise as there were a lot of aspects that i could have improved upon. I also enjoyed using hype again to create a simple web app with functioning controls.

After my Initial pitch it came up that there was no reason to use the app. As discussed i needed something like a promotion element within the app. My view on this is that its not my place to offer such promotion ideas, its down to the company to choose how they promote it. Designing something and saying that to get this to work you have to offer a promotion i think is wrong. If the client likes the concept they will decide on how to promote it. This app is the concept if they wish to take it further they can decide on how to get it out there.

Due to this I gave up on the app for sometime and just knocked up some crappy posters to show for crit. After finishing the posters I decided to go back to the app to finish it off so that I could at least submit something to YCN. I decided on a new approach (idea) for the app use and that was for it to be aimed at students in student halls, accommodation etc so they use it as a way of socialising.

I would have liked to continue with creating a mock up version of the app in hype as i found this quite fun to do.

I think that I struggled with pinning a design down early and sticking with it, I also struggled at meeting the requirements of design brief and trying to meet every aspect of the brief, I didn't want to go down the route that i ad seen a lot of people doing which was comparing drinking at home to drinking at a coffee shop. Looking at other designs by students online the majority had used a version of this idea.
If i did it again i would have sticked with he app idea and this was a strong idea.

Crit

For crit I showed some crappy posters that I made up as I had given up on the app idea. I just wanted to have something for crit. They were rubbish and I put 0 effort into them.

What the app does

IOS social app to encourage people to drink together. This app is designed to encourage university/college students to socialise around a cup of Douwe Egberts delicious coffee.

The idea: To engage university and college students who live on campus, in halls, student villages and other student accommodation to increase their social interactivity with each other.

The Concept: The app will allow Students to a have profile in which they share brief information/ interests. This information can be viewed by others using the app to see if they know someone
having coffee or want to meet up with new people who have
similar interests via the app.

Students can decide to invite or post that they are free for a coffee and invite anyone who wishes to join them to make new friends.

Douwe Egberts: The app features Douwe Egberts        coffee heavily and could be tied in with other            promotional material at student specific sites to    encourage them choose Douwe Egberts over other brands.

Usage: Students would use the app to socialise around coffee with new friends, It is a tool to meet new people that is location specific e.g., Student halls, campus’s etc.

Function:
To engage students socially with each other via common interests and the love of coffee through the use of this app.

Features:

Mini profile - A mini profile that list a few interests
that you can choose to be available to people looking to meet new people over a cup off coffee.

Coffee recipes - Make interesting coffees with added ingredients etc. And to show off to their friends.

Invite people - Use the app to contact multiple people, or use a “shout out” to invite nearby students over.

Social media interaction - Post Tweets, pictures and share to Facebook for further social media interaction.

Coffee photographs - Share designs with fellow students, coffee face, coffee moments.

Coffee events. -  Organise big coffee events/days.

Selective invites. - Unlike Facebook or twitter where invites/posts/status’s are broadcast to everyone of your friends this app lets you select the area/people you want to invite and saves you from using your text allowance that would be used if you were to text them. People are quickly added or removed from your invite list with a simple swipe.

What the brief is telling me.

I have gone though the brief and picked out all the relevant information and placed it into this helpful bubble sentence structure; where i can quickly go back and read it if i get stuck on what i am supposed to be doing. I have never done it this way before but it is something that i will do again, having it structured this way means i can clearly see what it is i am supposed to be doing.

Chosen idea

I have decided to create an IOS/android app that enables uses to communicate though their devices to social networking sites. After some extensive research and comparing my ideas I believe that this idea is the best idea to develop further as it incorporates all of the clients needs.
